At the start of the year I handed in my notice. After a lot of internal discussions and soul searching I decided that it was time to leave the world of teaching, and so I wrote my resignation letter with the aim of the end the Spring term being my leaving date.
Who would have guessed just what the world would throw at me in the time between writing that letter, and reaching the end of my contract. I certainly wasn't expecting a pandemic to rock up and play havoc with everything.
Needless to say things have not gone according to plan! Because of my heart attack, back in 2009, I have a reduce immunity and yesterday, as the school day ended, I had a meeting with my HeadTeacher who informed me that - for my own health - I needed to "socially distance" myself from the risk of infection and not head in to the school.
And so, in the space of a two minute conversation, my time at the school ended. My cap and gown were hung up, and I walked out of the reception for the last time.
Aside from a little bit of remote work, and the possibility of online teaching if the school is forced to close, I have now left teaching.
It was fun while it lasted, but just like the last episode of StarTrek:TNG; 'all good things...'
