So it has arrived. The much anticipated and publicised latest version of the iPhone operating system has been released. After downloading it (fortunately before the apple servers cracked under the strain of everyone trying to update at the same time), I've had a bit of a play with it and have to say that it's made quite a difference to the speed.
I've noticed opening pages in the browser has improved dramatically, and that the speed with which apps open is faster too. No more staring at the screen, tapping fingers waiting for an app to start up.
The copy and paste function is sublime. A simple tap of text on screen highlights it and a menu offering Cut/Copy/Paste appears. If there is not enough text highlighted to copy - two draggable markers can be moved to the beginning and end of the area to be highlighted. And pasting back in is just as easy, a double tap on screen and up pops the menu, click paste and it's done. Now why couldn't apple have released the iPhone with this in the first place? Some apps currently won't allow copy and paste though, although I imagine they are working on updates to their products as I write. Expect to see a massive number of updates to phone apps appearing over the next week!
MMS is a breeze too. Write the message, click the new photo icon and choose the image from the photoroll before sending. Again - why wasn't this on the iPhone from the start?
There are many more tweaks in this update, some more noticable than others, that overall have made a massive difference to how the phone works. However there is one thing crucial item missing - still - and that is adobe Flash compatibility. If only apple had allowed that, they would now be selling the phone to kill off all other phones. Whilst they hold back and not allowing Flash, other manufacturers will continue to tempt users away with their own Flash enabled offerings. Shame really.
