A Road Well Travelled: December 2007

Heading North

I am travelling with Tomepicker to the North again. My body is weary and unwilling to do as I ask. It will not be long now before my own journey comes to an end.

Looking at Tomepicker carefully, I can now see that the quest we have been on for almost a year has aged him too. He is now looking like an old dragon. The more I look at him the more I feel that we both may end our journey together.

The Perfect Place

It has been a hard walk, but we have returned to the place of Tomepickers family.

I have placed the crystal in the cave at Drakesnest. As I look at it, I can't help but wonder where the other crystals have been placed and whether in the future they will be found again. However, that is something that I have no control over. It will be for another wizard to take up the quest if needed. My time has moved on.

I am glad that Tomepicker has returned to his family, as it will make what I have to do next much easier. My bond with him must be broken.

14 December

Arbordene, Via Merelee

I feel empty.

I have left Tomepicker at Drakenest with his parents. I was unable to say goodbye to him, but explained to Snowscale why I had to do what I did.

I am not staying in Merelee, although I am more welcome now than I was the last time I called through.

I must travel on to Arbordene, as there are things to say and do before I leave.

19 December

Farewells

It has been a hard time yesterday and today, bidding goodbye to all the new friends and helpers I have made.

Rhonas returned to the town in time for me to say a sad farewell to him. I think he understood what I was really trying to tell him, although I never spoke the words. He took an arrow from his quiver and forced it into my hands to keep.

I have also learnt that the Dwarves are to reopen the lowest deeps of their mines - not since before the great war have they been that low below ground. Also the giants will stay on at "the finger" to the east of the Island. Torfeld is delighted to have found his peoples again, and has (it would seem) already become very friendly with one of the female Hymitots.

20 December

Home Beckons

Following a hard day yesterday saying goodbye to everyone for the last time, I am heading west to Soulhill for one final time; and home. There are a few loose ends I must tie up in the town.

A Road Well Travelled

This is the last time I will ever write in this diary. It is a remarkable journey that my life has been. I have been a most fortunate wizard to see the good times in Methtintdour, as well as witnessing some of the bad times. I only wish I had had more time to record much more of my life.

This parchment diary, and the record of my previous quest are all that I ever recorded.

I now head to the east to travel across the Great Ocean. What I will find, I know not. Where I will go, I know not. I only know that it is right that I do this.

I thank everyone who has helped me in quests. As I write this final line, I look around my small room and smile. I have enjoyed my life.

Farewell Methtintdour, and farewell Tomepicker, my old friends.

Gereog,

Former Wizard to the Theign Supreme of Methtintdour.
