Citadel: Telling an Epic Tale

Creativity in the world of Epic Citadel

Farewell, Citadel

It is time for our fourteen brave adventurers to leave the Citadel and return to Porchester.

During their time in the Citadel they have created some amazing work that you can see on this website, and developed some new technological skills.

As we close down this wonderful project the Year 3 and 4 children were asked for their own thoughts about what they had done. There was nothing written down, there was no chance to decide who was going to say what, they just spoke from their hearts...

Listen!

Year 5 and 6 pupils were asked about their Pickpocket tales, and said...

Listen!

Listen!

I asked some of the children for their written thoughts about the time they have spent using the iPads / laptops as they created work for this project microsite;

'The project was really enjoyable because we explored an iPad using artwork, description and stories' - Sadie

'I found working on the iPads interesting' - Liam

'I liked the work because I liked how we got our own iPad' - Nathan

'I loved using the Brushes app because I very much enjoy drawing and art' - Mathilda

'The project was very enjoyable and fun because we did lots of different things to do with Epic Citadel' - Laura

'The project was very enjoyable and I had a good time doing it' - Issac

'The Most enjoyable part was writing stories' -Emily

'The project was very enjoyable because we got to use the iPads, computers, explore Epic Citadel and do really fun things. It was great!' - William M

'Working on the iPads was easier than working on a computer' - Laura

'I found working on the iPads hard at first but now I'm quite used to them' - Zunaira

'My cousin owns an iPad so the process was not new. But I find the iPads very easy to use' - William NK

'I liked using the Pages app because it was easy and interesting' - William M

'I liked the Epic Citadel app the most because it was cool how you could walk around' - Nathan

'It was enjoyable because we did different activities and they were cool' - Zunaira

'The most enjoyable part was writing a mini story based on a picture from the Brushes app' - Issac

'The hardest app was brushes, even though I liked it' - Nathan

'If we could carry on, I'd like to make a Zooburst mini movie' - Issac

'If I carried on, I would venture on with a graphic novel' - William NK

'I would use Brushes more if we carried on the project' - Robyn

I'd like to thank Vicki Moore, a student teacher, who made all this possible by teaching my class for the duration of this project during her final training placement. An outstanding student who will become a wonderful teacher.

I'd also like to thank Tim Rylands for providing the spark of the beginning of the tale of The Pickpocket that Year 5 and 6 used to create their atmospheric tales. I look forward to talking about this project with Tim at the BETT2011 show, and hope to be able to collaborate with him again in the future.

I'd also like to thank Adam Brice, a teacher from Australia, who set up the 'Epic Challenge' and gave us the drive to see what could be achieved just by using an iPad.

Finally, I would like to take this moment to say a massive thank you to the 14 children involved in this project. They were awesome, and proved to me that the iPads are going to be a valuable tool for learning throughout the school.

As the children said themselves on their audioboo. This has been EPIC. Thank you everyone.

The male pickpocket was devastated at the terrible events happening. He decided he must go on a journey through all of Epic Citadel to find someone who could help his baby. The female pickpocket kept saying things like, "Oh you are so brave dear" and "Obviously you have the courage of a king!"
