The Grocers Shop

The Grocers shop for Bectan Sands is situated next door to the Post Office. The Grocers shop is a small shop, which has been there for 62 years. Throughout these years they have been supplying the community with their needs.

The building is a light brown colour, with green ivy growing around the side of the door. Above the door there is a large white sign saying The Grocers Shop, under that it says Mr and Mrs Benson.

In the shop there are fruit and vegetables with bright orange signs saying their price., Further down the shop there is a choice of tins and packets. On the other side there are two large racks with newspapers and in a huge fridge next to the racks, containing different types of tasty dairy products.

Mr and Mrs Benson are a kind middle age couple, they have got two awkward sons, one is called Louis who is 26 and the other is Steven who is 24. Louis has recently given up teaching after being stressed when he got home at night and Steven is still looking for a job because he doesn't like the ones he has been offered, (also he has missed most of the interviews and he is a rather an inpatient person.)

Mr and Mrs Benson got married in the village church, where they go every Sunday while their sons are looking after the shop. They recently put on a marvellous show at the Church for the village they raised £248 which has gone to different charities, and the village was so proud of them.

In the shop lots of jolly customers come in for instance Mrs Shaw aged 62 comes in every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to buy the same eatables and drinks, a bottle of semi-skimmed milk, a tub of Margarine, a box of eggs and a bag of mixed salads. Then there's Mr Watts and what a lovely looking person he is. He works for the local police and has helped with the inquiry with the recent theft at the shop. Mr. Barr comes in on Fridays to by a selection of fruit and a variety of tins.

Mr. Barr has become a great friend of the family. When it was Mrs. Benson's 39th birthday he got her a lovely ginger cat (which she named Tabby) because he new she was an animal lover and every now and then she puts her change in to the R.S.P.C.A funds.

The Village Post Office

The Post Office for Bectan Sands is on the right hand side of Main Street as you travel towards the beach. It is a small, two storey building of large reddish stone blocks that over time have faded, creating a patterned block effect. The top of the building has a steep roof, that is covered by grey slate sheets glistening in the sun.
A large red framed window is filled with items on sale - stamps, envelopes, cards and other stationery items.
Next to the window is a single red door giving access to the Post Office. Yellow letters reading 'Post Office' hang across the top of the window on a red sign.
On the pavement outside the Post Office is the village postbox. This stands in front of the footpath that leads along the side of the Post Office and then through the fields on its way towards the town.
Inside the Post Office it is dimly lit with only two fluorescent lights covering the shop. A counter, with a glass screen at the front of it, stands at the back of the room. Along the right hand side of the room are shelves full of leaflets and posters advertising postal services. Two pens sit on the dark shelf, connected to the shelf by a length of string.
On the left hand shop wall there is a display of cards for various celebrations - birthdays, weddings, new babies and more.

Behind the counter is where Bill Parva stands. Bill is the village postmaster, and has been for the past fourteen years. He stands six feet tall, and looks like a gentle giant.
His face is calm, although it looks rough and weathered from living near to the sea for many years. His short brown hair is beginning to grey at the edges.
Recently Bill was told to wear spectacles, and his gold framed glasses sit awkwardly on his nose, and he constantly has to push them back up to prevent them sliding.
While at work Bill wears smart casual clothes, and normally wears his blue cardigan to keep warm.

At the rear of the counter is a door leading to Bills lounge, kitchen and staircase.
Rex, Bills guard dog, likes to lie on the floor of the lounge looking into the shop while Bill works.
In the lounge is a large window that looks out onto the fields behind Bectan Sands.
Upstairs is a bathroom, and a bedroom where Bill and his wife, June, sleep.
