The cottage at number 9, Main Street, has moss covered, ragged stone walls. The roof is thatched, and the dark, old straw is hanging loose in patches.
At the front of the cottage there are two typical cottage style windows. Each window is criss-crossed with lead, and divided into four smaller panes. A white painted frame surrounds the windows.
In between the windows stands the red, solid wooden door. A silver metal letterbox can be seen just above the stone doorstep. Halfway up the door is the silver door handle, where the keyhole is hidden by a cap.
On the right hand side of the cottage there is a tall, narrow chimney, and a pot sits on the top of it. .
When you enter the cottage you step into a dark hall. On your left, you see a little, wooden table. On top of the table is a white, cordless telephone. A tall, brown coatstand is behind the front door. At the far end of the hall is an umbrella plant, looking wilted and brown because it has outgrown its pots.
On the left is a door leading to the only bedroom. A comfortable double bed is on the other side of the room. On both sides of the bed there are two pale, brown cabinets. Opposite the bed is a small round table with a portable television on top. Next to the table is a pale brown wooden wardrobe. To the right of the door leading to the bathroom is a dresser, and a three faced mirror sits on top of it. On the left of the door is a desk with a computer on.
In the bathroom there is a cupboard on the right where towels are stored and warmed. At the top of the cupboard is the hot water tank. A blue bath is fitted against the wall beyond the cupboard. On the other side of the bathroom there is a sink, underneath the frosted window. Next to the sink is a toilet.
At the far end of the hall is a door to the kitchen, while on the right hand side of the hall is a door that leads into the warm looking living room. In front of the window is a large, comfortable settee. In between the settee and door is a rocking armchair. A glass coffee table with golden coloured legs stands on a rectangular rug. Close to the hall door is a bronze bookcase with a few tatty looking old books on the dusty shelves. A stereo is in the corner of the room, close to the bookcase. Facing the bookcase, on the other side of the room is a polished, wooden mantlepiece, above an open coal fireplace. A television sits in a corner near to the fireplace.
A second door in the living room takes you through to the kitchen.
The kitchen is quite big. There is room for a long worktop. A window, behind the sink, gives you a view of the garden and beyond that to the sea. A farmhouse type table and two chairs can be seen in the corner of the kitchen. On the back wall a door opens into the conservatory, with its tiled floor, wicker chairs and many plants.
