I decided over the summer break that - despite the assessment and admin demands of a teacher nowadays - I would run two after school clubs for Yr5/6 pupils. The posters have gone up around the school, and pupils are currently writing application letters for one club, and drawing building designs for the other.
The first of these small projects is going to be to build a lighted Tardis, which will involve some 3D printing, painting and basic electronics.
The second club I'm running will be a continuation of the MineCraft creativity club that was successful a while back when some pupils created an entire city.
And yes, you'll have noticed that both clubs involve CREATIVITY. Because there's a distinct lack of it in the curriculum during the day (especially for Yr6 pupils, but don't get me started on that). I intend to put it back, and if it takes a few hours after school each week so be it. I'm a teacher. I'm supposed to give pupils new opportunities. So that's what I'm doing this year.
Bring it on.
