During the weekend my mum rang me and during the conversation mentioned that she had been on the local bus service, and they weren't taking any payments. The coin box was covered up, and passes weren't being scanned.
Today I read this;
"A problem with bus ticket computers has allowed some passengers in Nottingham to travel for free. All 250 buses operating in the Nottingham City Transport fleet failed to process tickets from first thing. Although those with passes could use them as normal, cash payments were suspended until early afternoon. A spokesman for the company said the amount of revenue lost would not be known until Monday and the fault was being investigated."
Hello??? The buses couldn't take any fares because "the computer said no"??? Do bus drivers of today not have the ability / intelligence / sense (delete as appropriate) to work out the fare for a passenger. It's pretty simple. A full fare is £1.50 and child fares are 80p. Ask the passenger to put the money in the coin slot, manually drop it into the collection bin, and apologise for the lack of a ticket. If I know that, surely the drivers who work for the company should know what the basic fares are, shouldn't they?
Can't wait to see what the total amount of losses are for this unbelievable situation turn put to be.
