Ready, Set, Go!

Well, it's almost that time again. The start of a new term. This one's a bit different for me though, it doesn't feel like I've been off for the summer break, it feels much longer - and to be perfectly honest it is. If I take out the phased return days I did before the summer it's actually around 21 weeks I've been off work. No wonder I am ready to get back.

It's all done!

Hurrah - my quest has been completed! I've reached the end of the "set up". I've managed to get all pupils within school set up with their learning spaces, set up their categories and posting access privaliges.

Came across these two great sites today (in the latest edition of Webuser) that allow you to create simple effects like either David Hockney, or Andy Warhol.

Scribd Vs Embeditin

After the server troubles that embedit.in suffered recently, I had the opportunity to look for and try out alternative services that allow you to embed files within a website / blog. As a result of that, I can now do a comparison; embedit.in Vs Scribd.

In Case of Emergency...

After my term of absence at work, I suddenly thought "what happens if someone needs to alter the website / wiki / add a user / etc?" So, I thought it was time to make an emergency handbook for others to work through if needed.

Embedit.in, out, in, out

I've mentioned Embedit.in before - because I like what it does. Take a file. Visit their site, upload it, copy some code and embed it into your website / blog so that others can view the file on screen without the need for the same software, or a "reader".

A mixture of good and bad news relating to the world of the Porchester Junior School bespoke VLE.

Video Conferencing Options

I'm thinking about how we're going to continue moving forward with ICT within the school over the next few years, and I know that video conferencing is going to play a bigger role over time. I'm now looking at two possible options to enable us to see people we speak too; Flashmeeting, or Skype.

Zooming along

This morning there was a knock at the door, and a UPS delivery man handed me a rather heavy package. Inside it was a new virginmedia modem (plus replacement powerpack too). 

VLE fatigue

I'm suffering today. After spending the last fortnight working on adding pupils to Google Apps, setting up their learning spaces through Typepad, linking their Google and Typepad accounts together I'm suffering from too much VLE. 

Just up my speed, please!

I received a lovely email from VirginMedia last week informing me that I could get a free - no strings attached - speed upgrade from 2Mb to 10Mb just by visiting their GoFaster website. Brilliant I thought - less time waiting for iPlayer episodes to download, less freezing when everyone is trying to use the connection at once, everything would be quicker. How wrong I was...
