It's now half term now, and I did set myself targets for recovery that were to be reached by the half term. The main target was to be returning to work after the break and, as I said in a previous post, I will be starting a phased return when the half term break is over.
Another target I set myself was based on the hospitals advice to make sure I walk everyday to build up my hearts strength. I've been pottering about the local streets, going back and forth to the local shop, and even walking up to the town centre each and everyday as expected, but just over 2 miles away is the local Marina where the river and canal merge. I decided that by the end of the first half term I would be aim to walk to the marina, and back.
In the past fortnight I've been extending the routes I walk along, travelling steadily further distances each and every day (heaven only knows what the other local residents think of me now), ready to travel to the Marina on the last Friday of the term. However the weather put an end to my target as the rain just dropped out of the sky constantly.
So, my target was not acheived, I didn't get to walk to the marina; Until Bank Holiday Monday that is, when the weather was much better and I set off, iPhone in hand, with google maps running (in case I forgot which roads to turn down!), walking at a good pace. And to prove I made it - here is a picture of the lock that separates the river from the canal;
So now that I have reached that target, I need to set myself a new one for the next half term. Time to get thinking what it could be...
