Last week I went on the initial training day for the Learning Platform that our Local Authority is recommending to all schools. I mentioned in this post what I thought about the product - and spent most of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening bemoaning it on twitter.
Well, we have reached a decision about the direction the school is taking. We have pulled out of the remaining training and will NOT be using the county solution.
Once I had been told the news from my HT, I tweeted and received lots of positive comments back like ;
- "Good for you"
- "the worm has turned"
- "TOTAL RESPECT to your headteacher for so-doing"
I also received a forwarded message sent from our LA to my HT;
"I'm sorry that you won't be attending the rest of the training. It's often schools such as your own that are able to discover the potential of a product once they begin to use it with their children. Look forward to perhaps working with you again in the future"
I could read that as being "It's schools like yours that can find a use for what we've lumbered you with"... but that would be me being cynical. So I won't.
From Monday onwards I start looking at what is out there, and what can provide us with the additional elements we don't yet have that would provide us with a learning platform, based on this information from Becta.
